I woke up this morning to my computer being on, which was odd because I know I had turned it off safely and correctly the night before. I don’t think anything of it and figure we may have lost power because of a storm, get up and open up the computer to everything being fine.

Nothing is missing. I shut down the computer normally and leave my room. Come back not even an hour later and turn my computer back on and it’s showing me a blank user icon with a stock wallpaper. I was confused but it allowed me to sign in with my password so I get in and am met with the basic windows 10 wallpaper, half of my desktop icons deleted, and an almost empty taskbar. All my display settings had been set to default and my download, pictures, desktop, almost entire library is empty.

I let it be and restarted it a few times I started getting all my stuff re downloaded and everything was looking to be better, just empty. Tried a system recovery, thought that would work and tried to go back a few days to when everything was working but it gave me errors three times and sent me right back to square one, empty files with half my game icons gone. Someone please help, i lost so much school work and I am an online student and can’t afford to be TOO late on my assignments.

Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. I tried everything, bottom to top and ended up finding the files and copying them over to a USB that I had. Where should I go from here? You said that the saves could be deleted at any time if i restarted my PC. Should I just keep restarting until I get the old profile running? You said you tried System Recovery. Was that using an image you’d previously created? What you want to try instead is System Restore in Step 2 below. Then restart the PC a few times to try to start your old account. Do not set up the Temp account as it may go away at any restart. If they are not in the Recycle Bin then they must be somewhere on the PC.

So do a keyword search for file names to try to find where they went. Another setting designed for smaller hard drives removes files from the hard drive and stores them only in the cloud if Files On Demand is chosen in OneDrive Settings.

If it hits on any of the files, right click to Show File Location to see if your files are there. I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. How satisfied are you with this reply? Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. Hi there, and thank you for the quick reply, I tried everything, bottom to top and ended up finding the files and copying them over to a USB that I had. Really glad you got your files back.

Make sure you have them all and spot check that they open. I see you confirmed you have a Temporary Account so follow these steps next: Sometimes if the User account gets corrupted and cannot start, Windows will sign into a temporary account. A Temp Account cannot be used as a normal account so do not set it up or copy files into it because at any restart it might decide to start into your old Account.

I’ll give you everything that can be done to repair or replace your account, based on helping others get through it. If so copy the files out externally so they are safe. Files should always be backed up if you value them at all. You can copy or drag them to an external USB flash or hard drive. Detailed steps to boot media are in the tutorial in Step 12 below. This will solve most problems and also bring it up to the latest version which you need anyway and by the most stable method.

Make sure during the booted install to follow the illustrated steps to delete all partitions down to Unallocated Space to get it cleanest, then click Next to let it auto-create the needed partitions, format them and begin install – this makes it foolproof. You will get and keep the best possible install to the exact extent you stick with the steps, tools and methods in the linked tutorial.

It’s a better install than any amount of money could buy. This site in other languages x.
