I have a pre-installed Home version which I am looking to upgrade to a Pro version. I already have a key bought from elsewhere but the system does not take the key when I enter it as it is the key for a pro version. I would thus like to be able to install the Pro version without a key and then activate using the key I have already bought but there seems to be no way to do it without doing a full fresh install.

Currently, the activation process just takes me to the store and back again to the key window without allowing me to install without a key. This thread is locked.

Will the upgrade work without being connected to the internet – I am assuming it will need to download the Pro version after taking in the key.

Also, the vendor also did provide that same generic key for use for upgrades there is a separate key for the Pro version. I have tried inputting that generic key although while connected to the internet – I get a message saying that the upgrade will now start and then it pops up with an error message a few seconds later saying you don’t have a valid digital license or product key. Will this then work without being connected to the internet? Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community.

Hi xbyzantium No, you do not need to be on the Internet to upgrade, that upgrade is done internally because it basically just turns on more functionality and no files need to be downloaded The offline upgrade is often more successful.
